Tan da suchcha man da sachcha dhan vi khoon paseene da; Dil da komal te vishwasi karam kare maskeene da. Sabar shukar bharwase wala bhajan bandgi aam kare; Sangee sathi sabh gunwante kul da roshan naam kare; Eh siftan ne sare sifre gyan da eika lagga nahin; Kahe avtar bina gur poore Honda poora sgga nahin. |

One may keep this body clean, his mind may be pure and he may have earned his
money by the sweat of brow; He may be gentle at heart, and trust-worthy, and be humble and polite in his actions. He may be a man of faith with virtues of contentment and gratitude, and he may be ever engaged in prayer and devotion; He may be in the company of talented people, and he may bring name and fame to the family. All these qualities are mere ciphers unless the digit 'One' of divine knowledge precedes them; Avtar says, the aim of life cannot be accomplished without the True Master. |
Meaning
One may keep this body clean, his mind may be pure and he may have earned his money by all the fair and honest means. He may be gentle at heart, trust-worthy, and be humble and polite in his actions. He may be a man of faith with qualities of satisfaction and thankfulness, and he may be always engaged in prayer and devotion. He may be in the company of talented people, and he may bring name and fame to the family. All these qualities are mere symbols unless the knowledge of One go before them. Here Baba Avtar Singh ji says that, the aim of life cannot be accomplished without the True Master.
